Marcos Cars was founded in 1959 in North Wales by race driver Jem Marsh and aeronautical engineer Frank Costin, a pioneer of aircraft aerodynamics on road cars who also designed the first Formula One championship-winning monocoque chassis.
His brother Mike Costin went on to co-found Cosworth, the engine maker behind decades of Formula One and motorsport success.
With designers like Dennis Adams, Jem and Frank built a run of lightweight, innovative British sports cars, from the Mantis XP to the Mini Marcos and the Mantara, known for distinctive design and real performance.
From the LM600 at Le Mans to the Mantis XP at Goodwood, a Marcos always stood out. The last production model, the TSO GT, arrived in 2007, developed with Tony Stelliga and Damian McTaggart (designer of the TVR Cerbera, Tuscan and T350).
In 2010, ex-Formula One and IndyCar engineer Tony Brown acquired Marcos Cars and the brand. With the Marcos Owners Club, his team built the mid-engined Spirit 220 prototype, run at Prescott Hill Climb with the blessing of original designer Dennis Adams.
Now partnered with entrepreneur William Storey, Marcos has secured new investment and a team of British engineers with Formula One experience, alongside the MarketGenie media team and industrialist Anthony Barrow. The new car launches in Early Autumn 2026.
