Founded in 1959 by race driver Jem Marsh and aeronautical engineer Frank Costin, Marcos pioneered the application of aircraft aerodynamics to road cars, and built a reputation for lightweight, motorsport-derived machines that punched far above their weight.
In 2010, ex-F1 and IndyCar engineer Tony Brown acquired Marcos Cars, Marcos Engineering and the brand. With support from the Marcos Owners Club, the team developed the mid-engined Spirit 220 prototype, driven at Prescott Hill Climb and given the approval of original designer Dennis Adams.
Now partnered with entrepreneur William Storey, Marcos has secured new investment and assembled a team that includes elite British engineers with backgrounds at Rolls-Royce and Bentley, ex-F1 test drivers, the MarketGenie media team, and industrialist Anthony Barrow.
The Manticore reveal in Spring 2026 marks the renaissance of the Marcos brand, and a new generation of lightweight, F1-derived British sports cars.
